Investing in Our Educators: AEI Hosts Instructor Development Training 2025
The Anishinabek Educational Institute held a successful Instructor Development training session on June 19th, 2025 at the Best Western in North Bay. Designed to support professional growth and build stronger connections among faculty, the hybrid event welcomed instructors from both near and far: some attending in person, others joining virtually.
Throughout the day, instructors engaged in a range of informative sessions focused on tools, strategies, and responsibilities that support student success. AEI staff members delivered training for Class365 and Microsoft Teams, helping faculty navigate and utilize these platforms to their full potential.
We were honoured to welcome Rick Fehr, Interim Director of Indigenous Studies at Western University and a former AEI instructor, who led a session on rubric development. Rick’s longstanding relationship with AEI and deep understanding of Indigenous-centered education added valuable insight to the discussion.
The session also featured Nancy Stevens, Interim Director of the School of Social Work at Nipissing University, who delivered comprehensive training on Duty to Report—reinforcing our shared responsibility to protect and advocate for the well-being of all learners.
The training wrapped with opportunities for instructors to reflect, ask questions, and offer feedback. Their input is instrumental in shaping how AEI continues to evolve as a learning environment rooted in accountability, community, and Indigenous knowledge.
Miigwech to all who participated and contributed to making the day a success. Together, we remain committed to growing as educators, and to walking alongside our students on their learning journeys.
