Anishinabek Educational Institute reaches major milestone in Indigenous institute accreditation process
The Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI) recently welcomed an Indigenous Advanced Education & Skills Council (IAESC) External Review Panel to its Nipissing Campus as part of the Indigenous Institute accreditation process. The site visit is a significant step in AEI’s long-term vision of becoming an accredited Indigenous institute.
Throughout the review, panel members met with staff, leadership, an on-campus Gookmis and students, learning about AEI’s unique governance structure, culturally grounded approach to education, student supports, quality assurance processes, and commitment to Indigenous-led post-secondary learning. Student voices played an important role in the visit. They spoke on the impact AEI has had on their educational journeys, cultural connections, and personal growth.
This milestone reflects decades of work toward fulfilling the vision established by the Anishinabek Nation Chiefs-in-Assembly and advancing education that is by and for Anishinabek people.
